چکیده

In this paper, a spatially constrained mixture model for the segmentation of MR brain images is presented. The novelty of this work is an edge-preserving smoothness prior which is imposed on the probabilities of the voxel labels. This prior incorporates a line process, which is modeled as a Bernoulli random variable, in order to preserve edges between tissues. The main difference with other, state of the art methods imposing priors, is that the constraint is imposed on the probabilities of the voxel labels and not onto the labels themselves. Inference of the proposed Bayesian model is obtained using variational methodology and the model parameters are computed in closed form. Numerical experiments are presented where the proposed model is favorably compared to state of the art brain segmentation methods as well as to a spatially varying Gaussian mixture model.

Bayesian Estimation of Spatially Variant Finite Mixture Model for Brain Mr Image Segmentation

The Finite Mixture Model (FMM) based approaches have been applied in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) to extract information about human anatomy. The idea is to model feature vector of a tissue using some known distribution (such as Gaussian, known as GMM). The performance of FMM deteriorates with increase in noise within data which may occur due to environment, patient movement, technician exp...

Color Image Segmentation using Adaptive Spatial Gaussian Mixture Model

An adaptive spatial Gaussian mixture model is proposed for clustering based color image segmentation. A new clustering objective function which incorporates the spatial information is introduced in the Bayesian framework. The weighting parameter for controlling the importance of spatial information is made adaptive to the image content to augment the smoothness towards piecewisehomogeneous regi...

Spatially Invariant Classification of Tissues in MR Images

Inhomogeneities in the fields of magnetic resonance (MR) systems cause the statistical characteristics of tissue classes to vary within the resulting MR images. These inhomogeneities must be taken into consideration when designing an algorithm for automated tissue classification. The traditional approach in image processing would be to apply a gain field correction technique to remove the inhom...

‎A Bayesian mixture model‎ for classification of certain and uncertain data

‎There are different types of classification methods for classifying the certain data‎. ‎All the time the value of the variables is not certain and they may belong to the interval that is called uncertain data‎. ‎In recent years‎, ‎by assuming the distribution of the uncertain data is normal‎, ‎there are several estimation for the mean and variance of this distribution‎. ‎In this paper‎, ‎we co...

Fully automatic brain tumor segmentation using a normalized Gaussian Bayesian Classifier and 3D Fluid Vector Flow

Brain tumor segmentation from Magnetic Resonance Images (MRIs) is an important task to measure tumor responses to treatments. However, automatic segmentation is very challenging. This paper presents an automatic brain tumor segmentation method based on a Normalized Gaussian Bayesian classification and a new 3D Fluid Vector Flow (FVF) algorithm. In our method, a Normalized Gaussian Mixture Model...
